Raphael: 啊，今天的第一个生字是

Kirin: 申请.

Adam: And that means “to apply for.”

Kirin: 所以他要申请工作.

Raphael: 对. 让我们先听一次今天正常语速的对话.

Cindy: 请进. 那边请坐.

Adam: The literal meaning here is “need drink little what?” Which means “Would you like something to drink?”

Raphael: 然后她继续说

Kirin: 我请我秘书拿过来.

Raphael: 你们记得 秘书 是什么意思吗?

Adam: That means “secretary.”

Raphael: 那你们记得 拿 是什么意思吗?

Adam: That means “to take”, or in this case “to bring.”

Raphael: 那你们知道 过来 是什么意思吗?

Adam: The literal meaning there is “across come,” which ends up meaning “come over here.”

Kirin: 我请我秘书拿过来.

Adam: “I’ll ask my secretary to bring it over here.”

Raphael: 然后这个男生回答

Adam: “No need to bother. Thanks.”

Adam: The literal meaning here is “Ok, today come here has what matter?” As in “Ok, what brings you here today?”

Raphael: 今天的下一个生字是

Kirin: 机会.

Adam: And this means “chance” or “opportunity.”

Kirin: 我想请问，我有没有机会能在贵公司服务?

Raphael: 在这个句子里，我们看到 贵公司 这三个字. 这个贵跟 您贵姓 的贵意思一样.

Adam: We’ve seen 贵 in the past as meaning “expensive” or in this case “honorable” giving us “your honorable company.”

Raphael: 那你们记得 服务 是什么意思吗?

Adam: That means “service.” So that gives us a literal meaning of “I want to ask do I have a chance to serve your honorable company?” This is a polite way of asking if the company has any jobs available.

Adam: And that means “possible.”

Raphael: 对，然后 可能 相反是 不可能.

Adam: “Impossible.”

Adam: “Opportunity”, which in this case is a job, “yes, that’s possible.”

Adam: They both mean “but” or “however.”
